I must say I do not agree. More traffic is good to your websites and to your business because many reasons:

v People who will like your site will direct their friends to it, the more the better

v And more man reasons.

BUT, if you are selling stuff online, affiliate some online cards games, operate links directory or just having fun things on the site, sometime small quantity of traffic can worth you more and there is no need to invest time and money to advertise the websites world wide.

Imagine a website who is advertising some affiliate programs, he is looking for webmasters or potential webmasters and trying to convert them all to become affiliates like him. Now, he can market him self to all visitors but the potential customers will be few. On the other hand he can advertise to webmasters only and get lower traffic but better for him.
